SAN ANGELO, Texas – Eastern New Mexico Baseball held #5 Angelo State University to just four hits during Sunday afternoon's game at Foster Field, but the home team escaped with a 6-3 win over the Greyhounds. The Greyhounds slip to 0-4 overall, while the Rams move to 4-0 on the season.
Angelo State wasted no time getting runners on the bases, with the first three batters all reaching base. However, the Greyhounds limited the damage to just one run, inducing a 4-6-3 double play with ASU scoring the game's first run. After two blank frames, ENMU scored its first run in the 4

Camden Matthews reached base with a single up the middle, then two batters later
Jonatan Clough came to the plate. Clough knocked the second pitch he saw over the left centerfield fence to send the Greyhounds ahead 3-1. Eastern had more base runners in the sixth, but the Rams escaped the inning after a double play.
With just three innings left, Angelo State loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh after a pair of walks and a fielders choice. A walk with the bases loaded scored a run, then a sacrifice fly tied the game at 3-3. The Rams jumped back on top after a bases clearing single brought two runs to the plate, moving the score to 5-3.
In the final two innings, Angelo State homered to add an insurance run in the eighth to go up 6-3. ENMU in both innings had a runner in scoring position, but weren't able to add to its run total. Angelo State completed the sweep over the Greyhounds, 6-3.

FROM THE SOURCE
"Very tough loss after having the lead through six innings and having the end the way it did," said Head Baseball Coach Riley Price. "(Dalton) Thatcher did a phenomenal job keeping them off balance and giving us the best chance to win that ball game. Unfortunately, we made some costly mistakes on defense after giving up a few free bases, which can't happen against a good team," said Price. "Although our strikeouts were still high, they were much more competitive today as we went up against two more low to mid 90 arms who didn't miss much. Overall, this weekend was a good test and we know what we need to work on going forward," said Price. "Especially proud of our true freshman Dylan Hummel, Jayden Martinez, and (Jonatan) Clough and how they competed for us all weekend. Jonatan was next level for us and will no doubt continue to spark our lineup," said Price.
