PORTALES, N.M. – On a day with 30 mile per hour wind blowing straight towards deep center field, the mantra sure proved to be on the offensive end as West Texas A&M found a way to take two games from Eastern New Mexico.
Game 1
A six-inning, 13-3, win for WT began with the first of three deep shots Emilee Boyer would hit over the fence in the game.
Heading into the bottom half of the second, West Texas A&M had already established a 3-0 advantage after scoring two more in the second.
A leadoff double from
Azalea Martinez led to an RBI-single from
Jokaira Paredes down the left side. Despite a runner on with no outs, the Buffs were able to keep the score at 3-1.
WT added a pair of runs in the third and ENMU went in trailing by four. The Hounds cut the deficit by one after
Mikenzey Patterson hit a triple and the Buffs third baseman committed a fielding error allowing the quick footed outfielder enough time to cross home plate.
After a two-inning scoring frenzy, surprisingly the two squads did not plate a single run during either side of the fourth. Instead, WT used a dominant four-run fifth inning to hold onto a 9-2 lead.
The Greyhounds did get an RBI-single courtesy of
Ashley Nickerson giving
Chanler Groves room to score the Hounds third run of the contest.
Looking to earn a run-rule victory, WT scored four runs and secured the 13-3 win in game one.
In total, the Buffs hit five home runs, with three coming off the bat of Boyer.

Game 2
The second game of the afternoon got off to a significantly different start as everything stayed relatively low scoring over the first four innings.
One of the things that didn't change was how the runs were scored. WT began the game with an eleven pitch at-bat to Ruby Salzman who smashed a homer to center field to give her program the 1-0 lead.
The Greyhounds tied things up as
Azalea Martinez drove in
Mikenzey Patterson with a base hit to left center.
WT added a run in the second and fourth to hold onto the 3-1 lead and then used a three-run fifth inning homerun to push the score to a threatening, 6-1.
Despite the game looking to be in West Texas A&M's control, at the time, ENMU did not let up. Instead, they went on to load the bases in the bottom of the sixth.
The rally began with a
Vivian Pichardo walk,
Valeria Contreras single, and
Chanler Groves single. All of the "small ball" led to a big-time grand slam from
Marissa Rodriguez. The homer marks her second of the season with both coming in the last five days.
Trailing 6-5 with no outs in the bottom of the sixth, looked to be prime position for the Greyhounds, but strong pitching from WT's Kyra Lair helped move the game into the seventh.
Although the advantage was one-run entering the final inning of regulation, the Buffs changed the picture of the contest with a seven-run seventh and increased the lead, 13-5.
Groves managed to get a two-out single, but West Texas A&M managed to keep the Hounds off the scoreboard and take the three-game series sweep over the Hounds.
"They (WT) are aggressive one through nine and they are able to execute in clutch situations. Offensively they were sound and played fundamental softball. I was very proud of our girls on how they adjusted with new pitchers," said head coach
Amanda Fefel after the doubleheader. "We need to turn the page and look at our series with UTPB."
Eastern New Mexico will head to Odessa for a three-game series beginning Saturday with the Falcons. ENMU holds a 24-14 series advantage over UTPB.
