SWEETWATER, Texas – Three Greyhounds made the short round Saturday night at this weekend's rodeo hosted by Ranger College.
Shacie Marr and
Greeley Eastep earned a chance to compete twice this weekend after a pair of quick performances in the long round.
Marr split third and fourth after a 6.8 second time, while Eastep split eighth, ninth, and tenth to advance to Saturday. Marr earned more team points after splitting fifth and sixth in the short round. Her 65 points helped the women's side take 5th place in the rodeo.
Her teammate, Eastep, posted the seventh-best finish among the ten tying that night.
Freshman
Zachary Townsend continued to shine under the lights as he finished the short go in the steerwrestling in six seconds. His time made him the final entry into the event Saturday.
He caught a much better run in the short go as he improved his time and finished in 5.9 seconds to earn 20 points on the day and 20 more with combined scores. Eastern's 40 points on the men's side helped them finish 12th in the competition.
"Goat tying has been tough every week and we had some girls just hundredths of seconds away from qualifying this week," said head coach
Albert Flinn after the rodeo. "When you have to be that quick you have to be fortunate. They made fantastic runs and were really quick. I thought they did good this week. To be 6.8 you have to be willing to let that horse run 100 feet and go tie a goat. It's going to be the same way next week with a short pen."
The Greyhounds are back in action this weekend at Western Texas College. The rodeo will take place Thursday through Saturday.
