Four Hounds make short go at Howard College rodeo

Greyhounds continue to excel with solid runs in Big Spring, Texas

BIG SPRING, Texas – Four Eastern New Mexico student-athletes advanced to the short round at this weekend's rodeo hosted by Howard College.

Couy McBride partnered with Walker Warkentin out of Cisco College to advance to the short round in team roping after a 7.3 second run. The pair took eighth in the event overall.

Shacie Marr took tied for tenth in the breakaway with a 2.9 second result. The junior finished eleventh overall after posting no score Saturday night.

Rowdy Norwood earned the final slot to the short go after a 6.3 time to begin the competition. He ended up taking sixth in the short round with an 8.9 second go. He earned ten team points for his efforts.

Greeley Eastep continues to impress for Eastern New Mexico in goat tying. Her 9.4 seconds run qualified her for Saturday night's competition. She followed that with a 9.8 seconds finish. She was a combined 0.6 seconds away from earning overall points.

"We had a good start with four team members making the short go," said head coach Albert Flinn after the rodeo. "I am excited to see how things finish up next week."

The Hounds head to Tarleton State for the final rodeo of the 2022-23 southwest region rodeo slate. The festivities will run from April 20-22.
