PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) completed a successful Greyhound Gala to honor and recognize the student-athletes within the Eastern New Mexico Athletics last week, this is the second time SAAC has hosted the Gala. The SAAC Greyhound Gala gave out 10 individual awards and one team cup award. The nominees for each award were put forward by the Eastern New Mexico Head Coaches and voted on by the SAAC representatives for each sport, along with coaches and administrators.
For individual awards,
Timothy Frederick of ENMU Track & Field took home the Male Athlete of the Year and Male Junior Athlete of the Year awards.
Brook Leger of ENMU Softball was awarded Female Athlete of the Year and Senior Female Athlete of the Year honors. Leger's teammate,
Ashley Nickerson, was named Female Freshman of the Year following a great campaign with ENMU Softball. ENMU Woman's Basketball took home the remaining awards in their category, with
Bella Stone being recognized as the Female Sophomore Athlete of the Year and
Deja Adrian winning Female Junior Athlete of the Year.
Jose Murillo from ENMU Men's Basketball won Male Freshman Athlete of the Year, while
Willie Ponce from ENMU Baseball claimed the Male Sophomore Athlete of the Year.
Hunter St. John from ENMU Football took the final individual award of the evening, Male Senior Athlete of the Year.
The final award of the night was the ENMU Team Cup, which was determined by the number of ENMU Student athletes that attended other team's game. Eastern New Mexico softball finished the atop the standings, beating out the other ENMU programs in terms of attendance at other Eastern New Mexico athletic events.
