RICHARDSON, TEXAS – The Lone Star Conference announced the 2022-23 LSC Scholar-Athlete Award winners today and
Camden Matthews (Carrollton, Texas) and
Brook Leger (Albuquerque, N.M.) represented Eastern New Mexico University on the list.
Matthews played 49 of the Greyhounds 51 games this past season, starting in each game they played in. ENMU's lead-off hitter held a team high for hits (65), runs scored (50), and triples (6).
The Greyhound's center-fielder produced a .337 batting average along with 31 RBIs, and nine stolen bases. Additionally, Matthews graduated with a 3.53 career GPA and was named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team. Matthews was awarded LSC Commissioners Honor Roll five times in their career.
Leger finished their career helping the Greyhounds reach the LSC tournament for the first time in 21 years, leading the Greyhounds in the circle. The Albuquerque, N.M. native paced the Greyhounds pitching staff with a 2.75 ERA, .243 opponent batting average, 14 wins, 150.0 innings pitched, and 121 strikeouts.
Adding 10 hits and five RBIs in the batter's box, Leger graduated with a bachelor's degree in the winter of 2022 and is currently pursuing a master's degree. Academically, Leger has been recognized to the LSC Commissioner Honor Roll seven times, and was awarded CSC Academic All-District Honors this past spring.
Awardees are selected based on outstanding accomplishments in athletics, scholarship and leadership. To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must have participated at least two years in their sport and be a member of the graduating class.
