Greyhounds Sweep Final Day of Iceman Invitational; Carrasco and Stubbs Earn All-Tournament Team Honors

ENMU bested Minn.-Crookston and Southwest (N.M.) 3-0 during Saturday sweep.

ODESSA, Texas – Eastern New Mexico Volleyball capped off their time at the Dr. Steve Aicinena "Iceman" Tournament with a pair of sweeps over Minnesota-Crookston and Southwest (N.M.) at the Falcon Dome on Saturday afternoon. The pair of wins take ENMU to 4-4 overall, while the Golden Eagles stand at 2-6 and Southwest are 0-8.

GAME ONE: ENMU 3, UMC 0

All three sets were tight between the Greyhounds and Golden Eagles, but ENMU found a way to pull ahead of the UMC each time: 27-25, 25-19, 26-24. In the first set, UMC was on set point, but a pair of Mikaela Garvin kills along with two errors from the Golden Eagles gave ENMU the edge at the end of the set. Following a 25-19 win in set two, ENMU took a close third set to complete the sweep. Eastern went on a 5-0 run to turn the score in their favor, then Darcy Dodd and Garvin both recorded kills to secure the match.
 
Three different Greyhounds posted double doubles: Gracelyn Stubbs (17 assists, 10 digs), Getsemani Carrasco (21 digs, 10 assists), and Kayla Ison (15 digs, 13 assists). Garvin paced the attack with 13 kills, leading all competitors. Stubbs and Deziree Flowers led the team with five block assists each, while Garvin contributed four.

GAME TWO: ENMU 3, USW 0

Against the Mustangs, Eastern took care of business winning 25-19, 25-12, and 25-17. ENMU produced 33 kills with six blocks, five aces, and 48 digs. ENMU's defense held Southwest to a .000 hitting percentage, with the Hounds hitting .200.

Individually, Stubbs led the Greyhounds in kills (7), aces (2), total blocks (4), and assists (14), while Carrasco paced the group with 17 digs. Garvin and Halle Sanders added seven and five kills, respectively, with Ison reaching double-figures for assists (12).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Both Carrasco and Stubbs were named to the All-Tournament team for their performance over the weekend.
  • For double doubles, it was the fourth of the season for Stubbs, while it's the third for Ison, and second for Carrasco. All the while, Garvin tied a career high in digs with eight against Minn.-Crookston.
  • The meeting with Minn.-Crookston was the first time in program history.
  • Flowers set a new career high for total blocks in a match, while Teryn Foote played their first match a Greyhound, recording a block assist versus Southwest (N.M.).
  • The Greyhound will play at home for the first time next week, as part of the 2023 LSC Preview, hosted by ENMU. ENMU will play four matches over three days, with 10 matches total between the five schools in attendance (ENMU, Western New Mexico, Cameron, St. Edward's, and Midwestern State).
