PORTALES, N.M. – Giddy up! The 2023 College Daze Rodeo is finally here as the collegiate rodeo season begins at Lewis Cooper Arena over the next three days. Before the festivities get rolling, please take a look at the Three Barrel Preview:
Barrel One – Key Information: All are invited to come to Lewis Cooper Arena for the three-day event. Fans can show for the performance each night (Sept 14-16) at 7 p.m. The cost is $10 and free for ENMU students. A livestream is provided on
ENMU Rodeo's Youtube page. The performance will run in the following order: bull riding, steer wrestling, goat tying, bareback, tiedown roping, breakaway roping, saddle bronc, team roping, barrels, and a final stretch of bull riding to end the night. Food is available for purchase all three days. The top ten competitors in each event after 2 1/2 days of competition will don center stage once more Saturday night to determine the champions.
Barrel Two – ENMU Represents: Twenty-six Greyhounds are expected to compete over 51 entries. The men's scoring team includes
Beau Dean,
Tyson Mackenzie,
Couy McBride,
Rowdy Norwood,
Blase Steffen, and
Zachary Townsend. For the women,
Daisy Dean,
Greeley Eastep,
Shacie Marr, and
Shaeden Marr are listed on the master list. Six newcomers will compete for Eastern New Mexico over the weekend that features 16 different schools in the region. Fourteen Hounds are expected to make a run in the breakaway roping event. Ten are listed for team roping. Seven are slated for an entry in goat tying.
Barrel Three – Hall of Famer: Head coach
Albert Flinn will be inducted into the Eastern New Mexico University Athletics Hall of Honors in October 2023. He competed for the Greyhounds from 1965 to 1968 and competed in three NIRA Finals. He holds a bachelor's in agriculture business and earned his master's in business administration in 1970 from ENMU. He took over the rodeo program as head coach in 2008.
