Men's Soccer Shutout DBU During Road Victory, 1-0

The Greyhounds pitched a shutout against Dallas Baptist University on Wednesday evening at Patriot field.

DALLAS, TEXAS – Eastern New Mexico Soccer pulled out a 1-0 victory over DBU on the road during a Wednesday night clash at Patriot Field. The Greyhounds improve to 2-3-1 overall on the season, while the Patriots now have a 3-3 record.

Both teams were even out of the gate, with neither team breaking down the other. Hugo Sacco made a point blank save point fifteen minutes into the game, keeping DBU scoreless at the break, 0-0.
 
As the second half began, the Greyhounds were the more dominant team, forcing three corners and a pair of shots in the opening 10 minutes of the period. Shortly after, Ignacio Lopez broke open the game with a goal in the 59th minute. I. Lopez cut in front of a sloppy DBU pass and kept their cool in front of net, finding the bottom left corner. After falling behind, the Patriots turned up the pressure, forcing a pair of saves from the ENMU keeper. DBU had one last chance with a late corner, but Sacco rose highest and claimed the cross, with the Greyhounds winning 1-0.
 

NOTABLE STATS

  • I. Lopez scored the crucial goal for the Greyhounds. I. Lopez, Loris Tsiatsipy, and Giani Mascarel each had a pair of shots during the game. Sacco had three saves in net, holding a shutout.
  • Substitute Evan Pustejovsky led DBU with four shots on the night, while three different Patriots had a shot on goal. The Dallas Baptist keeper, Alexander Knepper saw nine shots and one shot on goal during the game.
  • DBU had the edge on shots (10-9) and shots on goal (3-1), while both teams had seven corners. The Greyhounds commuted more fouls during the contest (8-5), with three yellow cards going to ENMU.

"The team fought hard and put on a great display after a tough loss in our home opener," said Head Men's Soccer Coach Brandon Misuraca. "We will enjoy tonight, but we will prepare for our next contest on Saturday at home."
