Volleyball Falls In Road Test With Oklahoma Christian, 3-0

ENMU provided a match high 40 digs in the match

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Eastern New Mexico faced a tough road task to start the conference schedule, falling to Oklahoma Christian at Payne Athletic Center on Friday evening, 3-0. The Greyhounds shift to 8-6, with a 0-1 conference standing. The Eagles shift to 7-5 overall with a 1-0 Lone Star Conference record.
 
The first set was highly contested, 25-23, with the largest lead held by any team just being three points. OC had the largest lead at 20-17, but the Greyhounds stormed back with three straight points to tie the set, before the Eagles won the set. After the Eagles took the second set 25-19, the Greyhounds matched Oklahoma Christian's offense in the opening stages of the third set, 9-9. From that point, OC built a five-point lead and didn't fall behind for the remainder of the set, completing the third set, 25-21.

NOTABLE STATS

  • Mikaela Garvin (eight kills), Darcy Dodd (seven kills), and Kali Nelson (seven kills) led the ENMU offense.
  • Gracelyn Stubbs and Kayla Ison provided 19 assists and 11 assists, respectively.
  • Defensively, Getsemani Carrasco paced ENMU with 15 digs, while Dodd contributed eight digs.
  • At the net, Garvin finished with four block assists and Stubbs had three block assists.
  • The Greyhounds found more digs than the Eagles (40-25), while Oklahoma Christian posted 40 kills compared to the 36 of ENMU. OC were dominate at the service line (8-2).

"Oklahoma Christian played well tonight on their home court," said head Volleyball Coach Sia Poyer. "Offensively, we needed more and just weren't there. I thought we played well defensively," said Poyer.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • ENMU and OC matched up for the first time in Oklahoma City, on the Eagles home floor.
  • The all-time series is now locked at 2-2 between the two programs.
