Women's Soccer Secures Conference Point In Draw with UT Tyler, 1-1

Nina Ballesteros scored their second goal of the season in the draw.

TYLER, Texas – Eastern New Mexico Women's Soccer earned a 1-1 draw with UT Tyler on Saturday afternoon at Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex. ENMU moves to 1-3-4 overall, with a 0-1-1 conference record. The Patriots shift to 2-2-3 on the season, with a 0-1-1 LSC standing.

The Greyhounds had the first impactful touch of the match with Nina Ballesteros putting the Greyhounds ahead inside the opening five minutes. As the Patriots were playing out from defense, the San Deigo, Calif. native cut in front of a pass from UTT goalkeeper and smashed the Greyhounds ahead. The Patriots pressured the ENMU goal from that point, with 11 shots but just two shots on goal, leading ENMU to take a 1-0 lead at the break.



After the intermission, UT Tyler's continued pressure led to a goal in the 52nd minute. A Sydnee Garner cross was met by the head of Brooke Mullins to equalize for the Patriots. Both teams had chances as the game went on, with Abbie Dickens striking toward goal in the 70th minute, and UT Tyler stinging the palms of Samantha Jeffries multiple times. In the end, the match finished 1-1 after 90 minutes.

NOTABLE STATS

  • Ballesteros struck for ENMU in the 5th minute and led the team with two shots on goal. Dickens and Ballesteros both had three shots during the game, while Lauren Mora had one shot. Jeffries was forced into seven saves in the match, facing 25 shots overall.
  • For the Patriots, Mullins scored a goal with an assist from Garner. Launa Torrez and Mullins lead the team with four shots and two shots on goal each. Emily Clark and Daniella Wilken each played 45 minutes in net, each making one save. Wilken allowed the goal, giving Clark the draw.
  • The Patriots fired 25 shots, compared to seven of ENMU. The Greyhounds committed 13 fouls, compared to nine of UTT.
