Men's Soccer Falls On The Road Against #18 St. Mary's, 3-0

Hugo Sacco saved a penalty kick in the 43rd minute

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Three goals in the second half dealt Eastern New Mexico Men's Soccer a defeat against #18 St. Mary's University at Sigma Beta Chi field on Wednesday evening. The Greyhounds fall to 2-4-2 overall, while the Rattlers improve to 6-2-1.
 
During the opening 30 minutes of the game, both were back and forth trading chances. During the dying minutes of the first half, St. Mary's were awarded a penalty for a foul in the box. On the insuing penalty kick, Greyhound goalkeeper Hugo Sacco made a diving save to their right-hand side to keep the game scoreless at halftime.
 
To start the second period the Rattlers dominated possession, scoring the breakthrough goal in the 60th minute. The Greyhounds fired back with a few attempts at goal, but St.MU picked up a pair of goals in the span of two minutes to put the match out of reach.

NOTABLE STATS

  • Ben Sauerländer led the Greyhounds with two shots on goal from the bench, while seven different ENMU student-athletes recorded a shot. Sacco made four saves in net, including the penalty save.
  • For the Rattlers, Bradley Greene scored the game-winning goal, while Alexander Carey scored the final two goals. Andre Schlaefli kept a clean sheet making four stops.
  • St. Mary's and ENMU were close on shots (12-10, St.MU), with the Rattlers having an advantage for shots on goal (7-4). ENMU picked up 15 fouls, along with four yellow cards, with St. Mary's committing three fouls with one yellow card.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Sacco's penalty save caused the first missed penalty by a Rattlers player this season, marking the first penalty save by a Greyhound since Ross Dalton stopped a penalty in 2019.
  • Five Greyhounds played the entire 90 minutes: Alex Garðarsson, Abraham Lopez, Sacco, Ludwig Scherer, and Colin Ulrich.
