Drury Stymies Women's Soccer, 3-0

ENMU were held by Drury University during a neutral site contest

KEARNEY, Neb. – Eastern New Mexico were handed a loss for the first time this season falling 3-0 against Drury University at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field on Friday afternoon. Eastern slip to 1-1-2 on the season while, Drury improve to 2-1 overall.

The Panthers wasted no time getting on the board, scoring with just 100 seconds off the clock. Shortly after the Greyhounds went further behind as Drury scored a second goal in the 18th minute. The score remained 2-0 heading into the halftime break.
 
As the second half began, Eastern found a few attempts on target, with Abby Ditzler testing the Drury goalkeeper in the 72nd minute. Cierra Ortega fired a shot on goal a few minutes later, but Drury scored a third in the 79th minute to put the game away.

NOTABLE STATS

  • Ditzler and Ortega both fired a shot on target, while Sierra Villanueva and Jacqueline Garcia each recorded a shot. Samantha Jeffries played 78 minutes in net, making three saves, while Yaritza Pelayo recorded a save in 12 minutes.
  • Tara Simon started the scoring, with an assist from Halley Kemmer. Danielle Buker scored the second for Drury, while Andrea Camargo netted the third. Bella Hernandez added an assist to the Camargo goal.
  • Drury led the way in shots (13-4) and shots on goal (7-2).

"We started off slow, which ultimately was our demise," said Head Women's Soccer Eric Belcher. "Overall, a good day though, everyone got a run in, we got to try some new things we keep learning about ourselves,".

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Jolie Griffith, Lauren Mora, and Pelayo played their first games as a Greyhound, with a handful of Greyhounds playing a season high for minutes.
  • Friday's match marked the first time the two programs matched up.
