PORTALES, N.M. – In a tight battle at Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium, Eastern New Mexico Men's Soccer (4-4-5, 2-2-2 LSC) fell in a 1-0 contest against DBU (4-3-6, 3-1-2) on Wednesday evening.
The Patriots were lively in the opening 15 minutes of the match. Finding four shots and scoring on the third opportunity. The Patriots nicked the ball high up the field in the 13
th minute, then played in Gavyn Rosales who buried the chance to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead. Shortly after,
Ludwig Scherer provided a defensive goal line clearance, then DBU struck the crossbar moments later. Â
Milo Paci was called into action again midway through the half, making two saves in quick succession to keep the score at 1-0 DBU at the break.
Eastern opened up in the second half, pressing for an equalizing goal.
Nick Huenig flashed an effort wide, while
Yahir Jimenez hit the frame of the goal, and
Alexandre Meres miscued a bicycle kick attempt. In between, DBU hit the woodwork for the third time in the match. ENMU continued to push for a tying goal, but the Patriots held strong defensively to preserve a 1-0 victory over the Greyhounds.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- In net, Milo Paci made five saves in goal, while the team finished with one team save.
- The Patriots outshot the Greyhounds, 16-14, including a 7-0 edge on shots on goal. Jimenez paced the team with four shots, while Meres and Arthur Macri both supplied three shots from the bench.
- DBU earned their first victory over the Greyhounds away from home. ENMU still has a 9-2-1 record in the all-time series.
- Five Greyhounds played the entire 90 minutes as Colin Hyzy, Pablo Nodar, Paci, Loris Tsiatsipy, and Scherer all played the full match. Hayato Morimoto made their first start of the season for Eastern.
- The Greyhounds now travel to Sul Ross State this weekend, in a crucial road game. Kickoff in Alpine, Texas is slated for 2:30 p.m. (MST) / 3:30 p.m. (CST).
