PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico rodeo is back in action at Texas Tech this weekend. Before the competition gets going, please read the Three Barrel Preview:
1.) No Movement – Eastern New Mexico women's rodeo remains the fifth ranked team in the southwest region after a fifth-place finish at Clarendon College last time out. ENMU scored 70 points thanks to the efforts of
Shacie Marr and
Shaeden Marr. The two sisters have been major contributors to the program's ranking throughout the first three rodeos of the season.
Shaeden Marr had an excellent run once again in breakaway. Her long round time was 2.1s and split 2/3 out of 200+ competitors. She continued that with a 5/6 split in the average to give the Greyhounds 60 points.
Shacie Marr split 5/6/7 in the goat tying long round to advance to the short go. Her ten points were added to the team total. Eastern sits 90 points behind fourth place Frank Phillips College and 27 points ahead of sixth place Texas Tech.
2.) Individual Lookout – Both Shacie and Shaeden rank in the top 15 in breakaway. Shaeden is tied for fifth and is 40 points behind fourth. Shacie is 13th and is ten points shy of a top ten placing. Shacie also ranks ninth in goat tying and is 65 points away from a top five mark. Over two-straight rodeos, ENMU has had one student-athlete near the cutline to make it back in steer wrestling. At Sul Ross State
Zachary Townsend came one spot shy by 0.4s and at Clarendon College
Tyson Mackenzie came 0.6s short of Saturday night's marquee event with a twelfth-place finish.
3.) Rodeo Raided – The competition at Texas Tech will be the fourth of the season in the southwest region. TTU has been a great rodeo for ENMU in the past. In 2023, the men took twelfth and the women held to a fifth-place result.
Shacie Marr earned 85 points in goat tying and 30 points in barrels. Her outing earned her the women's all-around in Lubbock. Marr was one of three cowgirls to qualify for the short go in two events. The women's team has finished fifth or better in the last four rodeos held by the Red Raiders.
