Volleyball Sets Several Season High's During 3-2 Defeat Against St. Mary's

Cayla Reyes led the Greyhounds with 41 assists, 26 digs, and four service aces during the night.

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Volleyball (3-17, 0-9 LSC) nearly completed a reverse sweep of St. Mary's (13-7, 5-4 LSC), as the Rattlers held on in the fifth set with the Greyhounds falling 3-2 on Friday evening at Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena.

StMU 3, ENMU 2 (18-25, 22-25, 25-12, 25-23, 8-15)

The Greyhounds offense was slow in the opening set but clicked in the 3rd and 4th set as three different hitters supplied double-digit kills. Darcy Dodd led Eastern with 21 kills, while Halle Sanders and Sophia Valdez finished with 11 kills each.

Cayla Reyes ran the offense for all five sets, finishing with 41 assists during the match. Imahni Brown chipped in with nine assists during the five-set thriller. Reyes was also pinpoint from the service line, posting a match best four service aces. Dodd and Sanders each finished with a pair of aces in the match.

Along with leading the offense, Reyes led the Greyhounds in digs with 26. Three other Greyhounds posted over 20 digs in the match; Dodd and Nevaeh Rodriquez compiled 22 digs each, and Brown finished with 20. Sanders also made an important contribution to the defense with 10 digs.

For the Greyhounds blocking, Valdez posted a match high four total blocks (two solo, two assists), while Halle Sanders posted three solo blocks in the match.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORES

  • Running a 5-1 offense, the Greyhounds set several, team, personal, and career bests in the match. As for team highs, Eastern posted their most assists in a match (52), service aces (10), digs (105), solo blocks (six) this season.
  • Reyes highlighted the career day on the court, posting a collegiate lifetime best for assists (41, single game high for any Greyhound this season), digs (26), aces (four, single game high for any Greyhound this season), kills (three), and total blocks (1). The 41 digs from Reyes is the most by a Greyhound since Alexis Aguirre finished with 40 digs against Cameron (9/24/16).
  • Dodd supplied an ENMU best for kills (21, single game high for any Greyhound this season), points (23.5, single game high for any Greyhound this season), digs (22), and a season high for aces (two).
  • Additionally, Brown eclipsed 20+ digs for the fifth time this season, and Rodriquez posted a season best for digs with 22. Valdez finished the night with a season best for total blocks (four), while Sanders set a season high for points (16).
  • As for double-doubles, three Greyhounds ticked the box during tonight's match. Reyes (41 assists, 26 digs) picked up their 5th of the season, Dodd (21 kills, 22 digs) tallied their 5th of the campaign, and Sanders (11 kills, 10 digs) notched their 3rd of the season.
  • Eastern are back in action tomorrow, Saturday, October 26, as the Greyhounds will play St. Edward's. The first serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. from Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena.
