St. Mary's Slip Past Women's Soccer, 2-1

ENMU honored 11 graduating seniors prior to today's game

PORTALES, N.M. – A second half goal from St. Mary's (6-5-3, 4-3-2 LSC) dealt Eastern New Mexico Women's Soccer (2-10-1, 1-8-0 LSC) a home loss, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium.

St. Mary's jumped on the board in the opening 10 minutes, following a penalty kick goal from Shelby Paniagua. After the goal, Eastern peppered the St. Mary's net with five shots including three on goal, but the Rattlers maintained a 1-0 lead at the break. Shortly after the start of the second half, Ally Spicker tucked away a goal for the Greyhounds in the 50th minute. Spicker intercepted a back pass, then rounded the on-rushing goalkeeper to level the match at 1-1.

The tie score lasted just six minutes as Bella Rameriz restored the lead for St. Mary's, nodding in a header from a free kick. The Greyhounds looked to find a tying goal for the second time, posting four more shots in the second half. Eastern did test the goalkeeper twice, but St. Mary's held out for a 2-1 victory.
