LUBBOCK, Texas – For a second-straight season,
Shacie Marr won the women's all around at the Texas Tech rodeo. Marr made it back to the short go in three events to help aid Eastern New Mexico to a third-place overall finish.
"It feels really good," said Marr when asked about her win at TTU. "My horses ran really well. It was pretty cool when I found out I made it back in all of them."
Most of Marr's points came from a speedy run in the barrels Saturday night. The Tularosa, N.M. native snuck into the Saturday night event splitting 10/11 with a 17.61s run in the long round and took second in the short round with a 17.36s race. Marr split 2/3 in the average and brought back 100 total points.
It's no secret that one of Marr's better events is goat tying. She split 8/9/10 to make it back with a 7.7s time. The graduate student impressed the field Saturday night with a 8.0s result to share 3/4 and 3/4/5 on the average. Her successes in goat tying earned Eastern New Mexico 65 points.
The only event she took points in in the long round was breakaway. A 2.8s run locked in a split of 5/6/7/8 for 7.5 team points.
The women's program came into the week ranked fifth in the southwest region and a third-place nod in Lubbock puts ENMU in a solid position to move up.
Eastern New Mexico men's rodeo almost made it back in steer wrestling. It marks three-straight rodeos where the Hounds finished one or two spots shy of the short go.
Zachary Townsend split 11/12 with a 6.9s run. It is the second time in 2024 that he has missed out on Saturday night by one place.
The Greyhounds will now set their eyes on a competition at Vernon College November 7-9.
