PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Women's Soccer (2-6-1, 1-4-0 LSC) faced a top of the conference Midwestern State (7-1-2, 3-0-2 LSC) on Wednesday evening at Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium, falling 6-1 to the Mustangs.

The Mustangs were knocking on the door from the start of the match, but broke through during the 34
th minute with Cassidy Savoy scoring to give MSU the lead. Eastern trailed at the half 1-0, with keeper
Rosie Willmott Joyce making a pair of saves. After the restart, Eastern started quickly as
Lauren Mora tested goalkeeper Annika Medellin.
However, the Mustangs reestablished themselves to take firm control of the game, scoring three goals in the span of 10 minutes. Jimena Rodriguez headed in a cross in the 63
rd minute, while Averi Culver sent a sailing cross into the back of the net (71
st minute), and Lexi Beck put away a penalty kick on the 73
rd minute. The Mustangs added a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes, as Rodriguez grabbed a second goal (82
nd minute) and Rylee Earle also scored (86
th minute). The Greyhounds did grab a late consolation three minutes from full time.
Cristabela Mendoza dribbled into the box from the left wing, then squared a pass to
Jacqueline Garcia who was able to tap into an empty net at the back post.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- Mora paced the Greyhounds for shots with three, as two of them went on goal. Meredith Brown and Garcia had the other Greyhound shots.
- Willmott Joyce finished the match with three saves, playing 78 minutes in goal. Yaritza Pelayo played the final 12 minutes for the Greyhounds
- Garcia scored their first goal for the Greyhounds in their ENMU career, while Mendoza created their first assist for Eastern.
- Eastern New Mexico now turns their attention to Saturday, Oct. 12, as the team will travel to St. Edward's. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. (MST)/1 p.m. (CST).
