PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico University rodeo is set to compete at Clarendon College this weekend October 10-12. Before the Hounds start the three-day event, please look at the Three Barrel Preview:
1.) More Marr: Both
Shaeden Marr and
Shacie Marr made it back at the last rodeo in Alpine, Texas. The sisters from Tularosa, N.M. helped ENMU clinch a second-place finish and have put the program in fifth place in the southwest region. The runner-up result is the best by ENMU women's rodeo since winning the College "Daze" Rodeo in 2022. Two strong runs by the duo in breakaway proved to be the golden ticket. Shaeden split 2/3 and Shacie split 4/5/6 in the long round. Shacie managed to earn solo fourth in the short go and placed fourth overall in the average earning 75 total points. Shaeden split sixth in the average to add five points to her 50 total points. Shacie also made it back in goat tying with an impressive runner-up in the long round and placing sixth in the short and splitting 5/6 in the average. She added 75 points combining her runs.
2.) So Close: Junior
Zachary Townsend came one place shy of making it back to Saturday night in two events at Sul Ross State. His runs in tiedown roping (10.0s) and steer wrestling (6.5s) held strong until the final runs during Saturday slack. This time, the Florida native is looking to make it back. Another group for the men's team to keep an eye on is
Walker Dennis and
Trent Wood in team roping. They placed 13th in the long round with a 7.8s run.
3.) Back to Clarendon: The southwest region circuit makes its way back to Clarendon for the first time since 2022. Slack will begin Thursday at 1 p.m. CT with breakaway and team roping. Other slack participants will compete Friday and Saturday mornings at 8 a.m. CT. There will be performances all three nights at 7 p.m. CT. Â The last time ENMU competed in the event, the women's team took eighth.
Shacie Marr earned 51.25 points in breakaway. Before 2022, the last time Clarendon held a NIRA event was in 2016 with the Greyhounds taking fourth in the women's competition and tenth for the men.
