Women's Basketball Falls In Road Clash with Southwestern Oklahoma State, 81-59

The Bulldogs finished 26-36 from the foul line, while ENMU was induced into 27 turnovers

WEATHERFORD, Texas – Eastern New Mexico Women's Basketball (2-1) stumbled on the road against unbeaten Southwestern Oklahoma State (3-0) on Thursday evening, 81-59, at Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
 
Making their first start of the season, Kaitlyn Edmondson led the Greyhounds with 15 points on 5-8 shooting, including 5-8 at the foul line. The forward pulled down six rebounds and supplied a pair of blocks. Ishuana Hunter contributed eight rebounds and eight points in the game, finishing 4-5 from the field. Daci Smith added nine points from the bench on 3-6 shooting.

Turnovers plagued the Greyhounds, committing 27 turnovers to the Bulldogs 13. SWOSU took advantage with 28 points off of turnovers, while leading in points in the paint (38-24). With Eastern trailing just three points midway through the 3rd period, Southwestern Oklahoma State closed the period on a 23-8 stretch, effectively taking the game out of reach. During the third frame alone, the Bulldogs went 13-16 from the foul line, going 26-36 during the game.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

  • Eastern met the Bulldogs for the first time since 2010, as SWOSU now have won three straight games against ENMU.
  • The Greyhounds had control of the glass, out rebounding the Bulldogs 42-30. Additionally, Eastern had five blocks to the Southwestern Oklahoma State's two.
  • ENMU struggled from the field, shooting just 36.8% (21-57), while connecting on five of 21 three-point attempts (23.8%), while finishing 12-16 at the foul line (75.0%). Southwestern Oklahoma State posted a 44.8% field goal percentage (26-58), finishing 33.3% from range (3-9), and converting on 26 of 38 free throw attempts (72.2%).
  • Edmondson led ENMU in scoring for the second consecutive game, making their first start of the season. Abbi Holder earned their first career start, while Tonka Jakšić found their first career collegiate basket.
  • The Greyhounds hope to bounce back on Saturday night, as the head home to face Navajo Tech at Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena for their home opener. First tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. against the Skyhawks.
