The Greyhounds scored both goals in the second half, each coming from long range

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Women's Soccer (3-12-1, 2-10-0 LSC) played their final home game of the season, coming away with a 2-0 victory over UT Permian Basin (4-9-3, 2-8-2 LSC) on Monday evening at Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium.

Both teams held strong defensively over the first 45 minutes, with neither team allowing many opportunities or chances. Each team was able to put a shot on goal in the first half, but UTPB held the edge for shots (7-3).

Eastern asserted themselves in the beginnings of the second half, with Louise Godden and Sophia Jeffres finding shots early. Midway through the period, the Greyhounds broke through with an opening goal in the 70th minute. Meghann Wingsutton carried the ball through the midfield, beating a pair of defenders then sliding in Godden on the left wing. Godden took the shot early outside the 18-yard box, floating their effort over the keeper into the roof of the net.

Following the goal, ENMU continued to attack and fire shots towards the goal. The Falcons did muster a few chances but were not able to get anything on goal. Nine minutes from the final whistle, Sofia Trejo doubled the lead from a free kick 20 yards from goal. Brisa Franco was taken down just outside the penalty area, with Trejo picking out the top left corner to score. The Greyhounds saw out the final nine minutes to secure a 2-0 victory.
