Women's Basketball Dominates Second Half In Win Over Fort Lewis, 67-48

The Greyhounds outscored the Skyhawks 36-18 in the second half, including 24-9 in the 4th quarter

DURANGO, Colo. – Eastern New Mexico Women's Basketball (2-0) closed out its opening weekend with a 67-48 victory over Fort Lewis (1-1) on Saturday evening at Whalen Gymnasium.
 
In just their second career game, Kaitlyn Edmondson led the Greyhounds with 18 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks in the victory. The freshman from Flower Mound, Texas finished 7-9 from the field, and 4-4 at the foul line. Jaz Salon added to the offensive effort with 13 points, connecting on a trio of three pointers.

Julieta Ceja finished with 10 points and seven rebounds, while Tatiana Platonova finished the night with eight points for ENMU.

Leading by just one point to start the third period, ENMU rattled off a 17-5 streak to go ahead 48-35. Entering the final period ahead 55-41, Eastern put the game away with a 12-4 streak leading by as much as 24 points (67-43).

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

  • ENMU beat the Skyhawks for the sixth consecutive season, taking their all-time series record to 18-12.
  • The Greyhounds outscored the Skyhawks in the second half 36-18, including 24-9 in the 3rd quarter.
  • Eastern slashed 46.6% from the floor (27-58), 46.2% from deep (6-13), and 87.5% at the charity strip (7-8). The Greyhounds bested the Skyhawks on the glass 41-31, leading to a 42-26 advantage for points in the paint.
  • The Greyhounds head to Oklahoma for their next matchup, facing Southwestern Oklahoma State on Thursday, November 14, in Weatherford, Okla. Tipoff is expected for 4:30 p.m. (MST) / 5:30 p.m. (CST).
