LAREDO, Texas – Eastern New Mexico Woman's Basketball (9-1, 4-0 LSC) overcame a slow 1
st quarter to beat Texas A&M International (0-9, 0-4 LSC) on the road, 63-56, at the TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building on Sunday afternoon.

Jayla Smith led the Greyhounds on each side of the ball, scoring 18 points and pulling down 16 rebounds (six offensive rebounds, 10 defensive rebounds). The Senior finished 5-8 from the field, including one three-pointer, while connecting on 7-10 free throws.
Ishuana Hunter logged 13 points off the bench in 18 minutes.
Julieta Ceja added nine points in the victory, while
Martrice Brooks and
Kaitlyn Edmondson each supplied seven points.
Nataya Lockett provided five rebounds and five assists, while Ceja and Hunter both grabbed five rebounds.
Eastern first game changing swing came to start the second quarter with a 10-0 run to overturn an eight-point deficit. Later in the 4
th quarter, ENMU turned up the defensive pressure to hold Texas A&M International to just 3-16 shooting, as ENMU outscored the Dustdevils 12-7 in the final period.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- The Greyhounds bench played their role with 25 points, outscoring the Dustdevils bench 25-13. ENMU also controlled the glass, out rebounding the Dustdevils 38-21. The rebounding helped ENMU lead second-chance points (14-0), leading the game 10-5 on offensive rebounds.
- ENMU finished the game shooting 43.8% from the floor (21-48), with 33.3% from behind the arc (3-9), and 64.3% at the foul line (18-28).
- Smith produced their first double-double of the season, finding a career high 16 rebounds. Brooks gathered a season high seven points, during a personal high 31 minutes on the floor.
- Eastern continues its conference road trip to Texas A&M-Kingsville for its next game on Tuesday, December 17. First tip between the Javelinas and Greyhounds is set for 12 p.m. (MST)/1 p.m. (CST), from the Gil E. Steinke Physical Education Center.
