Women's Basketball Overwhelms Cameron, 82-54

The ENMU defense induced 29 turnovers with 21 steals during the big home win

PORTALES, N.M. – A huge 23-0 run across the 2nd and 3rd quarter propelled Eastern New Mexico Woman's Basketball (8-1, 3-0 LSC) to an 82-54 win over Cameron (2-4, 0-2 LSC) on Saturday afternoon at Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena.
 
Four different Greyhounds reached double figures during the win, led by 16 points by Ishuana Hunter from the bench. Tatiana Platonova scored 15 points (5-9 FG, 4 ast, 4 stl) alongside 15 points from Nataya Lockett (all 15 points came in the second half).

Abbi Holder supplied 13 points during the contest, while Trinity Hudson dominated the glass with 11 rebounds and a pair of blocks. Jayla Smith pulled down six boards, while Kaitlyn Edmondson had five rebounds off the bench. Julieta Ceja had a solid all-around game with eight points, four rebounds, and four assists.

Eastern held onto a 35-33 lead in the second quarter with less than a minute to go, but sparked a 23-0 run to get to a comfortable lead. Platonova converted an and one layup and a Holder three ended the first half, then Eastern scored the first 17 points of the 3rd quarter to take a 58-33 lead, as Lockett found 11 quick points. In total, the Greyhounds scored 23 unanswered points over the span of four minutes and thirty-two seconds in game.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

  • Eastern took advantage of the 21 turnovers by the Aggies, finding 21 steals with 32 points from turnovers. The Greyhounds also made the most of second opportunities, finding 21 second chance points, with 19 offensive rebounds.
  • The Greyhounds won the battle on the glass 49-39, with ENMU more than doubling Cameron for points in the paint (48-22).
  • ENMU finished the game shooting 40.7% from the floor (33-81), with 38.9% from behind the arc (7-18), and 64.3% at the foul line (9-14).
  • The Greyhounds had five blocks for the second consecutive game, while 21 steals are the most against a Division II opponent this season.
  • Hudson produced a season best 11 rebounds in a high of 26 minutes. Platonova produced a season best for points (15), assists (4), and steals (4).
  • The Greyhounds now venture away from home for their next game in eight days' time. ENMU travels to Laredo, Texas to play Texas A&M International on Sunday, Dec. 15, beginning at 12 p.m. (MST)/1 p.m. (CST).
