Lady Chaps Defeat Women's Basketball, 65-44

Deja Adrian and Ashley Shipley led ENMU with 11 points each.

LUBBOCK, Texas – Eastern New Mexico Women's Basketball suffered a 66-45 defeat on Saturday afternoon to Lubbock Christian University at Rip Griffin Center. With the loss, ENMU moves to 8-16 on the season, with a 4-14 conference record. LCU improves to 18-7 overall, while sitting at 13-5 in conference play.

Both teams were quick to start the game hitting a few baskets. Daci Smith scored the team's first bucket, while Ishuana Hunter scored twice in quick succession to make the score 11-7 LCU. From that point, the Chaps held ENMU scoreless over the final four minutes of the quarter to lead 15-7 at the intermission. A 7-1 streak to start the 2nd frame pushed the Chaps lead to 14 points. A layup from Deja Adrian and a three-pointer from Ashley Shipley stopped the scoring run, but the Greyhounds trailed 30-18 heading into the locker room.
 
To start the third period, both traded baskets with Shipley and Adrian each hitting a three to begin in the first two minutes. Eastern found more success offensively as the quarter continued, but Lubbock Christian kept stride scoring the ball taking a lead into the final period (50-33, LCU). The Lady Chaps started the fourth quarter with eight answered points to go up by 25 points. In the end, the contest ended 66-45 in favor the Chaps.

NOTABLE STATS

  • The Greyhounds finished shooting 34.1% from the field (15-44), 42.9% from deep (6-14), and 64.3% at the foul line (9-14). The Lady Chaps provided a 50.0% field goal percentage (26-52), connecting on 54.5% of their three-point attempts (6-11), and going 8-11 at the charity stripe (72.7%).
  • ENMU finished with more rebounds in the game (29-28), while LCU poked away more steals than the Greyhounds (7-4).
  • Adrian and Shipley each had 11 points in the game, while Hunter contributed nine points. Adrian pulled down a team high seven rebounds while Alecia Whyte finished with six boards. Jaz Salon, Vanessa Oduah, Adrian, and Whyte each had two assists, while four different Greyhounds recorded one steal.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Despite the loss, ENMU still holds the all-time series record against the Chaps, 24-21.
  • Eastern return to Greyhound Arena for their next game, facing Oklahoma Christian on Thursday, Feb. 22. The Greyhounds and the Eagles will tip-off at 5 p.m. on Thursday evening.
