Rams Take Getaway Game Against Baseball, 8-0; Greyhounds Earn Series Split With #1 Angelo State

Angelo State took the final game of the series 8-0 on Sunday afternoon.

PORTALES, N.M. – On Sunday afternoon, #1 Angelo State bested Eastern New Mexico Baseball, 8-0, at Greyhound Baseball Field. Both teams now sit at 2-2 overall and in conference play on the season. Both teams take a series split, with Angelo State winning game one and four, while the Greyhounds took game three and four.

After two empty innings, Angelo State got on the board in the third frame. Three straight hits, a double, a triple, then a single brought home a pair of runs for the Rams to take the lead. ENMU escaped further damage with a strikeout with the bases loaded. Angelo State added two more runs in the fourth inning, with an RBI triple and RBI groundout bringing home the runs. The Greyhounds threatened in the bottom of the fourth with the bases loaded and one out, but the Rams turned a 5-4-3 double play to escape the inning.

In the final three innings, Angelo State scored four more runs to take an 8-0 lead. The Rams took advantage of free bases from the Hounds pitching staff. Eastern had two extra base hits in and the 7th and 8th inning, but was not able to push any runs across. The Rams took the getaway game 8-0 over ENMU.

FROM THE SOURCE

"Tough day at the plate for us," said Head ENMU Baseball Coach Riley Price. "We ran into a tough ASU starter who commanded the zone and kept us off balance. We had a few hard barrels throughout, but couldn't string anything together," said Price. "On the mound we gave away some free bases that ended up costing us, but we must score to win at the end of the day. Overall, I'm really proud of how we competed all weekend as a team," said Price.

"Getting to play the reigning national champs to start the season is a win because we get to see where we're at as a group and provides so many positive takeaways that will help us improve moving forward. Splitting the series with Angelo State has only confirmed how special this team can be this year if we continue to improve and compete like I know we are capable of," said Price. "I appreciate all those who came out to support us at home this weekend! GO HOUNDS!".

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Edmonson, Kinter, Rendon, and Dylan Shea all played their first game as a Greyhound.
  • ENMU earned a series split at home against Angelo State for the first time since 2017.
  • Eastern now head out on the road as they will play Texas A&M International in a four-game series. The series will feature two nine innings contests, on Friday and Sunday, along with a doubleheader of seven inning games on Saturday.
