PORTALES, N.M. – During an early morning game, Eastern New Mexico Baseball fell in the series finale against UT Permian Basin, 16-8, on Sunday morning at Greyhound Baseball Field. The Falcons took the series 3-1, winning the final three games in a row. ENMU drops to 14-16 overall with a 12-16 standing in conference play. Meanwhile, the Falcons improve to 16-16 on the season (same conference record).
After a scoreless first two innings, each team picked up a run in the 3
rd inning. A double started off the inning the inning for UTPB, then a one out single brought home the first run. ENMU gathered their run after a leadoff double from
Tucker Gideon. Shortly after, Gideon scored on a sacrifice fly from
Luciano Terilli. The tie score remained until the 5
th inning, with the Falcons putting up five runs to go ahead 6-1. A sacrifice fly restores the lead for UTPB, then the Falcons hit a grand slam to break open the contest.

ENMU did respond in the bottom half of the inning, putting up three runs in the 5
th inning. With two outs and two runners on base,
Demetrio Archuleta crushed a ball into the left-center gap for a bases clear triple. Shortly after, Archuleta came home on a wild pitch to cut the score to 6-4. From then, the Falcons continued to score with one run in the 6
th and three runs in the 7
th inning to take a 10-4 lead. Both teams continued the scoring into the 9
th inning, as the Falcons added six runs hitting a pair of home runs. Eastern had late scoring of their own, putting up four runs in the final frame. Terilli picked up an RBI double, while
Willie Ponce homered to left field with two runners on to conclude the score at 16-8 UTPB.
NOTABLE STATS
- The Falcons outhit the Greyhounds 18-6, with UTPB finishing with eight extra base hits, with Eastern providing four extra base hits.
- Ponce led the Greyhounds with a pair of hits and three RBIs, while Terilli and Archuleta each had a base hit with a pair of RBIs (both scoring twice).
- Josaiah Estrella started the game for ENMU, tossing five innings with six runs allowed in the loss. Anthony Gonzalez, Marc Rios, Zach Raichel, and Maddux Edmonson all entered the game on the mound for Eastern.
- Bryan Adams earned the win in relief, tossing four innings with one hit and one run allowed with three walks. Nolan LaChappa pitched effectively in the start, giving up four runs on four hits with five strikeouts. Brock Robarts recorded the final out, being charged two runs on one hit facing three batters.

"We got out played in just about every facet and they were playing their best baseball this weekend," said Head ENMU Baseball Coach Riley Price. "We had opportunities to get things going and just couldn't string anything together. The wind was jetting out and their offense took full advantage, and we didn't," said Price. "We have to dig deep and start competing better moving forward. Need to reset and get our fight and confidence back," said Price. "We will see how we respond against a talented team on the road this next weekend in Tyler,".

- Eastern head out on the road for their next series, traveling to Tyler, Texas to face UT Tyler in a four-game series. Two teams begin on Thursday, Mar. 28, starting at 6 p.m. (MST) for a single nine inning game. ENMU and UTT follow with a doubleheader on Friday, Mar. 29, set for 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. (MST). The series finale is scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 30, at 12 p.m. (MST).
