PORTALES, N.M. – The final rodeo of the 2023-24 regular season is almost here and Eastern New Mexico University will be competing at Tarleton State University to finish out the campaign. Before ENMU heads to the competition, please take a look at the Three Barrel Preview:
1.) Last Time Out: ENMU competed in Big Spring, Texas last weekend with two Hounds make the short-go.
Couy McBride represented in the team roping and
Greeley Eastep put up a successful long round result to make it to the Saturday night event. The competition was fierce in a much larger arena for ENMU. The goat tiers found challenges with the 190-foot length compared to the typical 100-foot raceway. Another event that was difficult was the breakaway where cattle went out of the shoot atypically. Many runs made it next to impossible to record a time under the necessary three seconds.
2.) Hounds Highlighted: Thursday night will see
Beau Dean (tiedown),
Shaeden Marr (goat tying),
Greeley Eastep (goat tying),
Zachary Townsend (team roping),
Trent Wood (team roping), and
Tabby Tomlinson (barrels) represent the program in the performance round. Friday night's performance includes
Rowdy Norwood (steer wrestling). Seniors and grad students for ENMU include
Blase Steffen,
Rowdy Norwood,
Beau Dean,
Tabby Tomlinson,
Gabby Ray,
Kathi Norell,
Shacie Marr,
Kelby Keeley,
Genevieva Anderson-Milliorn, and
Jordyn Everson. Some of the Hounds have decided to come back for another year, however some will be completing their final rodeo as Greyhounds.
3.) What To Know: The men's program ranks 13
th in the region while the women's team holds the 7
th ranking.
Zachary Townsend is tied for 14
th as the best steer wrestler in the region and
Shacie Marr holds the slot for 3
rd among all cowgirls in goat tying. There are 64 entries in goat tying this week and 43 in steer wrestling. Marr will be looking to make her eighth short round in goat tying this year while Townsend will attempt to earn his fourth trip to the short-go in steer wrestling.
