STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Eastern New Mexico rodeo finished the season at the Tarleton State University rodeo this weekend. Competition was fierce as this was the final shot for competitors to make their case to reach the national finals in Wyoming.
"All you can do is ask them to go and do their best," said head coach
Albert Flinn after the weekend. "That's what they did and I thought they did really well."
Zachary Townsend was the closest ENMU student-athlete to potentially make a short go. He finished steer wrestling in 12
th as he posted a 5.8s run.
Goat tying proved to be a productive event for Eastern New Mexico despite no entries in the short round.
Shacie Marr (6.9s),
Greeley Eastep (7.6s),
Tabby Tomlinson (7.6s), and
Jordyn Everson (8.2s) all posted quick times.
Barrels was another good event for
Shacie Marr as she placed in the top-20 at 16.18s. She came 0.2 seconds away from qualifying for Saturday night's final.
The competition ends the 2023-24 campaign for Eastern New Mexico. The season saw several high's for the program, including great improvements from the first rodeo in Portales until the final rodeo this weekend in Stephenville. The 2024-25 season will begin September 19-21 as the Greyhounds host the College "Daze" rodeo in Portales at Lewis Cooper Arena.
