PORTALES, N.M. – Four home runs in the opening game propelled Eastern New Mexico Softball over St. Mary's during twinbill action on Friday afternoon at Greyhound Softball Field. The Greyhounds hit four homers during the series opener, to take a 11-7 victory. During the second game, two runs in the 7
th inning pushed St. Mary's past Eastern in the second game (5-3). With the split, ENMU shift to 25-24 on the season, while sporting an 18-23 conference record. The Rattlers move to 30-23 overall, holding a 25-16 LSC standing.
GAME ONE: ENMU 11, STMU 7
Following a blank opening two innings, both teams opened the scoring in the third frame. Three consecutive singles brought home the opening run for the Rattlers, while ENMU played long ball twice to take a 4-1 lead. 
Judith Osuna began the frame with a ground-rule double, then 
Samantha Gutierrez homered to center field to get ENMU ahead, 2-1. After a walk, 
Alondra Vasquez added the Greyhound lead with a two-run blast clearing the left field fence.
 
 
After St. Mary's tied the game with three runs in the 4
th inning, ENMU erupted for five runs to take a 9-4 lead. ENMU loaded the bases with no-outs, with Osuna starting the inning with a single. 
Taighen Whitzel doubled to the opposite field to take a 6-4 lead, then two batters later 
Marissa Rodriguez crushed a three-run home run to right center.
 
 
The Rattlers continued to battle back, scoring twice in the 5
th inning. Eastern a pair of insurance runs, with 
Taighen Whitzel starting the inning with a solo home run to center field. 
Ashley Burns followed with a single, then later came around to score to go up 11-6. A final run came across for St. Mary's in the 7
th, as the Greyhounds finished 11-7 winners.
 
NOTABLE STATS
	- The Rattlers finished outhitting the Greyhounds during the game, 16-11, with ENMU recording six extra base hits. Seven of the nine starters provided a base hit, while four different Greyhounds posted a home run.
- Whitzel finished 2-2, scoring three times, with two walks, and three RBIs (including a solo home run). Cecy Jurado grabbed a pair of singles, while Osuna finished with a double and a single.
- After Whitzel, Rodriguez also provided three RBIs from their 3-run home run. Vasquez and Gutierrez each provided 2-run home runs, finishing with two RBIs each.
- Rodriguez tossed a complete game in the circle, allowing seven runs (four earned), walking four batters with four strikeouts.
- Jayden Abrego started the game, allowing four runs over 2.1 innings. Savannah Youngblood is dealt the loss, giving up seven runs (six earned runs) over 2.2 IP. Sara Robertson tossed the final frame, recording three groundouts over five batters.
GAME TWO: STMU 5, ENMU 3
Both teams combined for five runs in the first inning, with each team taking advantage of the long ball. A two-run homer put the Rattlers in front, while three consecutive hits put the Greyhounds in front 3-2. Gutierrez doubled off the wall in right field, Whitzel singled to right, then Vasquez brought them all home with a three-run homer.
 
 
The scoring stopped until the 4
th inning, as a sacrifice fly brought home the tying run for the Rattlers. St. Mary's had the bases loaded with no outs, with a line drive to center field bringing home the run. However, Eastern picked up the final two outs to keep the score at 3-3. The decisive moments came in the 7
th inning, with four hits from St. Mary's bringing home a pair of runs to take a 5-3 lead. ENMU did put the tying run on second base with one out, but the Rattlers ended the game with a 6-2-5 double play to secure a 5-3 win.
NOTABLE STATS
	- ENMU and St. Mary's were close for hits, with the Rattlers finishing with 10 hits and the Greyhounds seven. Eastern provided four extra base hits (three doubles, one home run).
- Gutierrez paced the Greyhounds with two doubles, while Vasquez' three run blast provided all three RBIs.
- Jordan Rivera tossed a complete game in the loss, giving up five runs, four walks, and five strikeouts.
- For the Rattlers, Madeline Bloom allowed just three runs on seven hits with three walks and a K over 7.0 innings.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
	- ENMU earned their first home victory over St. Mary's in program history. The Rattlers are making their first trip to ENMU since 2000, playing in their first away conference series against the Greyhounds.
- Rodriguez tossed 162 pitches during their outing, the second most pitches they have thrown this season behind the 11.0 inning performance against Texas Woman's. During game two, Rivera finished with a season high 165 pitches in their outing.
- With their home runs, Whitzel (12), Vasquez (12), and Gutierrez (10) are all over 10 home runs for the season (all of which are in the top-10 for a single season record). The teams 45 home runs are 3rd all-time in a single season.
- The Greyhounds wrap up the regular season facing the Rattlers, beginning at 12 p.m. The team will honor its three graduating seniors following the conclusion of the game.
