SPEARFISH, S.D. – Eastern New Mexico Volleyball (1-7) completed its weekend in South Dakota with a pair of matches at the Yellow Jacket Classic on Saturday, afternoon at Donald E. Young Center. In the first match, the Greyhounds fell in competitive sets to Minnesota Crookston (3-4) in four sets, while dropping a straight sets contest to South Dakota Mines (4-4).
UMC 3, ENMU 1 (25-19, 20-25, 19-25, 19-25)
Sophia Valdez and
Halle Sanders powered the ENMU attack with 17 kills and 14 kills, respectively. Sanders also provided a spark on the defensive end with a team best 24 digs for a double-double.
Both
Abigayle Falefia (19 assists) and
Cayla Reyes (18 assists) ran the offense, with
Randi Crandall posting a team high two service aces.
Sanders led the defense with 24 digs, while
Imahni Brown supplied 19 digs, and Dodd finished with 11. Reyes just missed double figures for digs with nine.
Brianna Hernandez led the blocking effort with three total blocks, while Valdez and Crandall each had two total blocks.
SDM 3, ENMU 0 (21-25, 20-25, 18-25)
The balanced offensive attack was led by Dodd with nine kills, while Sanders and Valdez both finished with eight kills.
As for assists, Reyes posted a team high of 19 assists, while Falefia finished with 12 assists.
Three different Greyhounds posted double-digits for digs, as Brown led the team with 17 digs. Not far behind, Dodd chipped in with 16 digs and Reyes provided 11 digs.
Eastern had a game high of nine total blocks, as Hernandez supplied a team best six total blocks. Valdez chipped in with four total blocks, and Crandall had two solo blocks.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORES
- Sanders recorded a double-double in consecutive matches, while reaching a career best for digs with 24 against Minnesota Crookston.
- Valdez picked up a new high for kills (17), while Falefia posted a season high for assists against UMC.
- Against South Dakota Mines, Reyes supplied their second double-double of the season (19 assists, 11 digs).
- Minnesota Crookston now lead the all-time series 2-1 against Eastern, while South Dakota Mines and ENMU faced each other for the first time.
- The Greyhounds play their first home games of the season next week as part of the LSC Challenge. Eastern will host six total games over three days, with the Greyhounds playing one match each day between Thursday, Sept. 19-Saturday, Sept. 21. ENMU will match up with Midwestern State, Sul Ross State, and Western New Mexico.
