PORTALES, N.M. – It's time to get your favorite western apparel out as the 2024 College "Daze" Rodeo is set for September 19-21. Before the Greyhounds open the 2024-25 collegiate rodeo season, please take a look at the Three Barrel Preview:
1.) Greyhounds Are Back: After a successful 2023-24 slate, Eastern New Mexico University rodeo is ready for a new season to begin. The program will compete in five rodeos this fall and five in the spring in preparation for the national finals at the beginning of the summer. The women's team brings back eight Hounds to the roster. Two members of the scoring team are back for ENMU –
Shacie Marr and
Shaeden Marr. Shacie was a consistent short round qualifier for the Greyhounds last year and won two rodeos to finish fifth overall in the southwest region in goat tying. For the men, they bring back four to the team, including two from the scoring group –
Tyson Mackenzie and
Zachary Townsend. Townsend was a top-15 regional finisher in steer wrestling last season. Both programs have added depth from transfers and freshmen.
2.) It's All New: Eleven newcomers make up the rest of the ENMU team for the women. Four of the new Greyhounds come from the Land of Enchantment. They include
Harlee Barela (Lemitar),
Kyrian Phillips (Clovis),
Jayden Rodriguez (Rio Rancho), and
Tyra Tsosie (Crownpoint). There are four newcomers for the men's program. The only first-year Greyhound from New Mexico is
Walker Dennis, who grew up in Portales.
3.) Home Sweet Home: The first rodeo of the collegiate season is always in Portales and there is a lot to look forward to for fans. Low 80's are expected weather-wise. Performances will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased as you enter the Lewis Cooper Arena. Concessions will be available for purchase, which includes some of the best food around. A live stream will be available on the
ENMU Rodeo YouTube page. A full list of contestants and when they will compete can be seen
