Volleyball Sparks Comeback to Beat Western N.M., 3-2

ENMU posted a season high 12 blocks in the match

PORTALES, N.M. – In the final home game of the weekend of the LSC Challenge, Eastern New Mexico Volleyball (3-8) answered after trailing twice to beat Western New Mexico (4-7) 3-2 on Saturday, Sept. 21 at Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena.

ENMU 3, WNMU 2 (15-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-16, 15-11)

Three Greyhounds entered double-figures for kills in the match, as Darcy Dodd supplied a team best 17 kills. Sophia Valdez (13 kills) and Halle Sanders (11 kills) also had key moments to push Eastern to victory.

Cayla Reyes led the assist effort for the Greyhounds, finishing with 25 assists over the five sets. Abigayle Falefia grabbed 17 assists in the match.

Brianna Hernandez compiled a team high seven total blocks, while Sanders (six total blocks), Valdez and Randi Crandall (four total blocks each) added to the defensive charge.

Imahni Brown took control with 25 digs on defense, leading all competitors. The next best Greyhound was Dodd with nine digs during the match.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORES

  • Eastern have beaten the Mustangs four times in a row, with the last two occasions happening in five sets.
  • The Greyhounds set a season best for total blocks in consecutive games, posting 12 blocks during the match.
  • Four Greyhounds posted season high during the match. Defensively, Brown (25 digs) bettered their previous best by one, while Hernandez (7) and Sanders (6) each plotted a new high for blocks. Reyes (25 assist) improved on their personal high.
  • The Greyhounds now enter conference play, beginning on the road in Odessa, Texas against UT Permian Basin on Thursday, Sept. 25. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. (MST).
