Women's Soccer Claims Road Conference Victory Over Sul Ross State, 1-0

Meghann Wingsutton scored for the Greyhounds in the 27th minute to secure a road win.

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Women's Soccer (2-3-1, 1-1 LSC) claimed a 1-0 road win over Sul Ross State (2-4-0, 0-2 LSC) on Saturday afternoon at Lobo Soccer Field.
 
Meghann Wingsutton claimed the game winning goal, smashing the ball past the goalkeeper in the 27th minute. Mariana Gonzalez Jimenez laid the ball into the path of the Greyhounds midfielder to set up the strike.
 
Both teams had chances in the remainder of the match, but both defenses kept the score at 1-0 after the 90 minutes. Rosie Willmott Joyce made seven saves during the match, securing their second victory and shutout of the season.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

  • The Greyhounds played the Lobos for the first time in program history, taking a 1-0 series lead.
  • Wingsutton marked the game with their first goal of the season, while Gonzalez Jimenez supplied their first helper of the season.
  • Sarah Tate led the team from the backline with three shots and two shots on goal. Both Tate and Willmott Joyce played the entire 90 minutes.
