PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Women's Basketball (12-4, 7-3 LSC) returned to winning ways following a 98-78 home win over Sul Ross State (2-11, 1-9 LSC) on Thursday evening at Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena.
The scoring blitz was led by
Nataya Lockett, finishing with 23 points from the bench on 8-15 shooting, while going 6-7 at the foul line, and poking away a team best five steals. Five other Greyhounds reached double-figures, with
Jayla Smith recording a double-double (12 pts, 11 rebs).
Abbi Holder supplied 16 points on seven made field goals, grabbing six rebounds, along with three assists.
Tonka Jakšić led the team with three made three-pointers, finishing with 11 points, while
Kaitlyn Edmondson and
Tatiana Platonova both had 10 points.
Eastern scored over 20 points in each quarter, holding its biggest lead in the 4
th quarter at 96-75 (21 points). The Greyhounds dominated on the fast break (29-19) and capitalized on the Sul Ross State turnovers (38 points from turnovers). ENMU controlled the glass, outrebounding Sul Ross State 42-34.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- Both teams shot very well in the game, as the Greyhounds finished shooting 48% from the field (36-75), connecting on 10 three-pointers (10-32, 31%) and making 16-20 free throws (80%). Meanwhile, Sul Ross State found 31 baskets during the game (31-69, 45%), shooting 67% from deep (8-12), and a perfect 8-8 at the foul line.
- Eastern registered a team high for assists (23) and steals (25) against an NCAA opponent this season.
- Lockett registered a new single game team high this season with 25 points, while J. Smith secured their third double-double of the campaign. Eight of the ten players recorded two or more assists, Platonova and Lockett each had a career-high five steals, while Jaz Salon tallied a season high five assists.
- The Greyhounds round out the home weekend against in-state conference rival Western New Mexico on Saturday, Jan. 18. The afternoon tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
