Women's Basketball Falls To #20 Lubbock Christian, 59-53

Ishuana Hunter had a game high 20 points in the defeat with the Chaps.

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Woman's Basketball (10-2, 5-1 LSC) saw its eight game winning streak snapped, falling in a home contest with #20 Lubbock Christian (11-3, 5-1 LSC), 57-53, on Friday evening at Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena.
 
Ishuana Hunter led the Greyhounds offensively, scoring 20 points on 7-15 shooting, while grabbing six rebounds and collecting three steals. Julieta Ceja grabbed a double-double off the bench, with 11 points and 12 rebounds (game high).

Several other Greyhounds provided supporting roles, with Trinity Hudson (6 pts, 2 blks) and Tatiana Platonova finding multiple field goals (5 pts). ENMU were beaten on the glass for the first time this season, with the Chaps holding a 38-35 edge on rebounds. Despite leading the conference in three-point percentage, the Greyhounds were held to just three attempts during the entire contest. The game featured nine ties and six lead changes.

Trailing 30-21 to start the 3rd quarter, the Greyhounds scored 10 unanswered points to surge to a 31-30 lead. Both teams went back in forth during the second half, with LCU leading by one point with less than a minute to go. The Chaps secured an offensive rebound at the 40 second mark and cashed onthe second chance with a three-pointer to make it a two-possession game with 20 seconds to go. From then on, the Greyhounds had a few opportunities, but the Chaps held out to take the conference contest.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

  • The ENMU bench finished with 18 points, while producing 26 points in the paint. Lubbock Christian held a narrow edge on assists (10-7), blocks (6-5), and steals (7-6), while ENMU won the turnover battle (11-12).
  • ENMU finished the game shooting 36.4% from the floor (20-55) and 72.2% at the foul line (13-18). The Chaps slashed 34.0% from the field (18-53), hitting 30.8% of threes (4-13), going 19-23 at the foul line (82.6%).
  • Hunter secured their third 20-point game of the season, while Ceja produced their second double-double of the campaign.
  • Eastern looks to bounce back on Sunday, facing Midwestern State on January 5 at 1 p.m. from Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena.
