DENTON, Texas — The Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to Texas Woman's in Lone Star Conference action Wednesday at the Pioneer Soccer Field.
The Greyhounds faced early pressure from the Pioneers, conceding in the third minute when TWU's Erica Brelove found the net off an assist from Celeste Beltran.
Texas Woman's extended their lead in the 28th minute when Giselle Gutierrez scored with assists from Bri Luna and Mia Thaxton, taking a 2-0 advantage into halftime.
Despite seven saves from ENMU goalkeeper Rosie Willmott Joyce, who played the full 90 minutes, the Pioneers added two more goals in the second half. Bella Alfaro scored in the 76th minute, assisted by Carringtyn Johnson, before Halee Avery capped the scoring in the 90th minute.
The Greyhounds were unable to register a shot throughout the match, while TWU tallied 33 total shots with 11 on goal. The Pioneers also held a 14-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The Greyhounds return to the pitch on Saturday, October 4, when they host Lubbock Christian at noon in Portales. The home match will give ENMU an opportunity to secure its first win of the season in front of their home supporters.
