SILVER CITY, N.M. - The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team dropped a four-set match to Western New Mexico University (19-25, 25-23, 16-25, 16-25) on Saturday afternoon at Drag's Court. With the loss, the Greyhounds move to 4-15 overall and 1-7 in Lone Star Conference play.
Sophia Valdez led the Greyhound attack with 24 kills on 42 attempts for an impressive .381 hitting percentage. The junior outside hitter also contributed defensively with five digs while adding a block assist to her stat line. Valdez's performance set a new career-high in kills ina match for the junior.
Addison Bartlett added six kills, 11 digs, and two service aces for the Greyhounds. The sophomore middle blocker was also active at the net with one block assist. Bartlett's serving proved to be a bright spot for ENMU, helping the team claim their lone set victory in the second frame, where they edged out Western New Mexico 25-23.
Imahni Brown contributed defensively for the Greyhounds with 13 digs, helping stabilize ENMU's back row.
Catalina Gutierrez paced the Hounds with a career-high 24 assists while teammate
Jayla Yoder dished out 14 assists, also a career-high.
ENMU will look to bounce back during Homecoming Week when they host UT Dallas on Friday, October 24, at 4:30 p.m. in Portales. The match against the Comets will be a key opportunity for the Greyhounds to improve their conference standing as the second half of Lone Star Conference play continues.
