PORTALES, N.M. - The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team dropped a straight-set match to UT Tyler (25-12, 25-17, 25-24) in Lone Star Conference action Saturday at the Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena.
The Greyhounds (4-17, 1-9 LSC) were led by sophomore outside hitter
Sophia Valdez, who recorded a team-high 17 kills on 40 attempts. Valdez added five digs in her all-around effort, continuing her consistent offensive production for ENMU this season.
Junior middle blocker
Amya Speller contributed six points for the Greyhounds, finishing with four kills and adding defensive value with one block solo and two block assists. Speller's presence at the net helped ENMU challenge UT Tyler's offensive rhythm throughout portions of the match.
Sophomore setter
Violeta Flores orchestrated the Greyhound offense with 19 assists while adding a service ace and four digs.
Additional contributions came from freshman
Addison Bartlett, who recorded seven kills and five digs, while
McKenzie Hart added six kills. The Hounds struggled to find offensive consistency, hitting .131 as a team compared to UT Tyler's .357 attack percentage.
UT Tyler (11-9, 7-3 LSC) was paced by Autumn Perry's 17 kills and Saige Rivera's ten kills, while Sydney Atkinson added nine kills and led all players with 19.5 points.
The Greyhounds will look to bounce back when they host Midwestern State on Tuesday, October 28 in another Lone Star Conference matchup at the Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena. The match will be student club and Halloween costume theme night.
