ENMU falls to St. Edward's in league play

Louise Godden managed the lone shot for the Greyhounds in 4-0 loss to St. Edward's

PORTALES, N.M. - The Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team suffered a 4-0 defeat against St. Edward's University in Lone Star Conference action Wednesday at Al Whitehead Field at the Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium.

The Greyhounds (0-9-0, 0-6-0 LSC) faced an early deficit as the Hilltoppers (3-6-2, 2-3-2 LSC) struck quickly with Macy Jennings finding the net just 10 seconds into the match. St. Edward's continued their offensive pressure, extending their lead to 2-0 at the 2:50 mark when Marie Hannedouche scored with an assist from Bailey Williams.

Hannedouche added her second goal of the match in the 27th minute, giving the Hilltoppers a commanding 3-0 advantage heading into halftime. The Greyhounds struggled to generate offensive opportunities throughout the contest.

ENMU managed just one shot attempt in the match, coming from Louise Godden in the first half. The Greyhounds' defense faced consistent pressure, with goalkeeper Kiley Patalan recording five saves despite conceding four goals. The match saw physical play from both sides, with Faith Zint and Sophia Jeffres receiving a yellow card for ENMU and multiple cautions issued to SEU players.

The Hilltoppers completed the scoring in the 74th minute when Ava Mauldin found the net with an assist from Jisell Zavaleta Denova. St. Edward's finished with a decisive 17-1 advantage in shots and earned five corner kicks while the Greyhounds had none.

The Greyhounds will continue Lone Star Conference play on the road, traveling to face Oklahoma Christian on October 11 for their next match as they look to secure their first conference win of the season.
