ENMU Volleyball falls to Adams State in non-conference road match

Sophia Valdez and Amya Speller each recorded seven kills in loss to Grizzlies

ALAMOSA, Colo. - The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team dropped a non-conference road match against Adams State University on Tuesday evening, falling in straight sets (23-25, 21-25, 16-25) at Plachy Hall in Alamosa, Colorado.
 
Sophia Valdez led the Greyhounds' offensive effort with seven kills and added two digs in the match. The junior outside hitter posted a .042 hitting percentage across 24 attack attempts as ENMU struggled to find offensive rhythm against the Grizzlies.
 
Amya Speller delivered a strong performance at the net for Eastern, recording five blocks (one solo, four assisted) while maintaining an efficient .214 hitting percentage. Speller contributed seven kills on 14 attack attempts to help the Greyhounds' offensive efforts.
 
Imahni Brown anchored the Greyhounds' defensive efforts with nine digs, consistently keeping plays alive throughout the match. Brown also added two assists while playing all three sets for ENMU.
 
Addison Bartlett contributed six kills for the Greyhounds, while Isabella Hidalgo and Aaliyah Butler each added three kills.
 
As a team, the Greyhounds recorded 29 kills with a .051 hitting percentage, compared to Adams State's 34 kills and .263 hitting efficiency. ENMU tallied 28 assists, five service aces, and 13 total blocks in the match, while the Grizzlies finished with 39 assists, seven aces, and eight blocks.
 
The match featured competitive play early, with 16 tie scores and 19 lead changes across the three sets. The opening set saw eight tie scores and four lead changes before Adams State pulled away for the 25-23 win. The second set featured seven ties and four lead changes, while the final set had just one tie score and one lead change as the Grizzlies secured the sweep.
 
With the loss, Eastern New Mexico falls to 4-21 overall and remains 1-12 in Lone Star Conference play. Adams State improves to 14-10 overall and 8-4 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
 
The Greyhounds return home to Portales for their final two matches of the regular season, hosting St. Mary's on Thursday, November 7, at 6 p.m. MT, followed by Senior Day against St. Edward's on Friday, November 8, at 2 p.m. MT.
