Greyhounds stumble at home against St. Mary's

Sophia Valdez tallied a 14-dig, 10-kill double-double for the Hounds in the loss to the Rattlers

PORTALES, N.M. - The Eastern New Mexico volleyball team (4-22, 1-13 Lone Star Conference) dropped a four-set match to St. Mary's (13-11, 10-4 Lone Star) on Friday evening at the Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena, falling 3-1 (15-25, 16-25, 25-20, 22-25).
 
Sophia Valdez led the Greyhound attack with her 10-kill, 14-dig double-double while adding a service ace. The sophomore outside hitter has been a consistent contributor for Eastern throughout the season.
 
Addison Bartlett added eight kills on 31 attempts and delivered a team-high four service aces along with three digs. Amya Speller continued her efficient play with eight kills on 15 attempts for a team-best .333 hitting percentage.

Imahni Brown led the defensive efforts with 20 digs on the night, her seventh match with 20+ digs this season and her first since the senior tallied 20 digs against UT Dallas on October 24.
 
Linden Pennings contributed six kills and two blocks, while Isabella Hidalgo recorded five kills and five digs for Eastern. Zakara Masibo-Ballard added five kills and three digs to the Greyhound effort.
 
Catalina Gutierrez directed the offense with 15 assists and added three service aces. Violeta Flores contributed defensively with ten digs, 13 assists and two service aces.
 
The Hounds showed resilience in the third set, hitting .313 as a team to extend the match after dropping the first two sets. ENMU continued to battle in the fourth set, recording 13 kills but ultimately falling short as St. Mary's secured the victory.
 
For the match, Eastern New Mexico tallied 43 kills with a .054 hitting percentage. The team recorded 40 assists, 11 service aces, and 71 digs in the contest. The Hounds also registered seven total blocks, with one solo block and six block assists.
 
St. Mary's was led by Laurene Robinson with ten kills and three blocks, while Alyssa Koehl added 14 digs. The Rattlers finished with 46 kills and a .184 hitting percentage.
 
The Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday, November 8, hosting St. Edward's at 2 p.m. MT at the Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena in Portales for Senior Day.
