Hilltoppers take match from Greyhounds on Senior Day

ENMU celebrated Senior Day in the loss to SEU

PORTALES, N.M. - The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team (4-23, 1-14 Lone Star) dropped a straight-set decision to St. Edward's University (9-11, 6-9 Lone Star) on Saturday afternoon at Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena for Senior Day.

Junior Amya Speller led the Greyhound attack with six kills and a .333 hitting percentage, while adding four blocks (two solo, two assisted) in the defensive effort. The middle blocker's presence at the net provided one of the few bright spots for ENMU in the 25-18, 25-18, 25-13 defeat.

Sophia Valdez contributed seven kills but faced challenges against the Hilltoppers' defense, finishing with a .050 hitting percentage. The junior outside hitter recorded two digs on the afternoon.

Catalina Gutierrez directed the Greyhound offense with 12 assists while adding two digs from her setter position.

Addison Bartlett added four kills but encountered difficulties with the Hilltoppers block, finishing with a -.077 hitting percentage. Linden Pennings provided a spark for the Hounds with four kills and a .429 hitting percentage in limited action.

Defensively, the Greyhounds managed nine total blocks but couldn't contain St. Edward's balanced offensive attack. Imahni Brown led ENMU with seven digs while contributing two assists and one service ace.

The Greyhounds struggled with offensive efficiency throughout the match, posting a .060 team hitting percentage compared to St. Edward's .370 mark. ENMU recorded 27 kills against 22 errors, while the Hilltoppers tallied 64 kills with just 11 errors.

St. Edward's was led by Mia Clay's 11 kills and Grace McDonald's eight kills, as the visitors controlled the tempo throughout the contest. The Hilltoppers recorded 13 total blocks and 34 digs in the defensive effort.

Eastern New Mexico will look to rebound when they travel to Oklahoma Christian for their next conference match on Friday. The Greyhounds will aim to improve their record against the Eagles in their final road trip of the season.
