Dominant fourth quarter lifts Greyhounds over Southwestern Oklahoma State

ENMU outscores SWOSU 22-17 in the fourth quarter to defeat Bulldogs, 68-64

PORTALES, N.M. - The Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team used a dominant fourth quarter performance to secure a 68-64 victory over Southwestern Oklahoma State University at the Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena on Monday evening.
 
The Greyhounds (3-3) overcame a back-and-forth battle that featured six tied scores and 10 lead changes to earn their third win of the season, while SWOSU dropped to 2-3.
 
After struggling in the third quarter, shooting just 18.75% from the field, ENMU found their rhythm in the final period. The Greyhounds outscored the Bulldogs down the stretch, connecting on 5-of-11 field goals and converting 11-of-15 free throws to pull away for the win.
 
Junior guard Julieta Ceja led all Greyhound scorers with 20 points, including a sharp 3-for-4 performance from beyond the arc, while adding four rebounds. Ceja's efficient shooting from distance helped ENMU finish the game at 29.2% from three-point range.
 
Nataya Lockett recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while also contributing three steals and an impressive 9-of-10 showing from the free-throw line. Lockett's performance on the boards was crucial as the Greyhounds battled throughout the contest.
 
Tatiana Platonova rounded out ENMU's top performers with 13 points, four rebounds, and a team-high five assists. Platonova's playmaking ability helped the Greyhounds generate 20 fast-break points and 24 points in the paint.
 
The Greyhounds' defense forced multiple turnovers, converting them into 21 points throughout the game. ENMU's bench also contributed 14 points to the winning effort.
 
For the game, Eastern New Mexico shot 36.5% from the field (19-of-52) and 74.2% from the free-throw line (23-of-31), with their strong fourth-quarter performance proving to be the difference.
The Greyhounds will be back in action on Thursday at home against Cameron for conference play. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. at the Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena.
