PORTALES, N.M. - The Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team opened Lone Star Conference play in dominant fashion Wednesday night, overwhelming Cameron University 76-36 at Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena.

Aaliyah Smith provided a spark off the bench for the Greyhounds, contributing 14 points, three rebounds and two steals in the lopsided victory. Smith's energy and scoring punch helped ENMU pull away from the visiting Aggies throughout the contest.

Hannah Jensen also made her presence felt coming off the bench, adding 10 points to the Greyhounds' balanced offensive attack. The depth and production from ENMU's reserves proved crucial in the victory.

Victoria Barrera, and Tonka Jaksic each added eight points for the Hounds.

The Greyhounds' defensive effort was the story of the night, as they forced Cameron into 28 turnovers while limiting the Aggies to just 36 points on 26-of-65 shooting from the field. ENMU's pressure defense created numerous fast-break opportunities and kept Cameron's offense out of rhythm.

Every Hound who saw action contributed to the scoring effort, with each player recording at least two points. The balanced attack showcased ENMU's depth and unselfish play as 11 different players found their way into the scoring column.

ENMU controlled the game from the opening tip, outscoring Cameron 19-7 in the first quarter to establish an early double-digit lead. The Greyhounds extended their advantage to 35-16 at halftime.

The third quarter proved decisive as ENMU outscored the Aggies 25-9 to build a commanding 60-21 lead entering the final period.

Cameron struggled offensively, managing just 6-of-27 shooting from three-point range. Kloe Heidebrecht led the Aggies with 15 points on 5-of-15 shooting, while Madison Griggs added five points.

The victory improved ENMU to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in Lone Star Conference play, while Cameron dropped to 0-7 overall and 0-1 in conference action. The Greyhounds have now won two of their last three games following the dominant conference opener.

ENMU's bench outscored Cameron's reserves 54-10, with the Greyhounds getting quality minutes from their entire rotation.

The Greyhounds shot 60.0 percent from the free-throw line, connecting on 12-of-20 attempts. Eastern also dominated the rebounding battle, outrebounding Cameron 50-40 while limiting the Aggies to just four second-chance points.

ENMU will be back in action Saturday, Dec. 6, at 1 p.m. when they host Oklahoma Christian at Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena in Portales.
