SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Eastern New Mexico men's basketball is on its longest winning streak since the 1992-93 season. The historic winning streak is up to 10 games after an 81-71 victory over Westminster.
"Really proud of these guys," said head coach Daven Võ when reflecting on today's win. "It is good to test ourselves and play these tough road games."
Eastern New Mexico improves to 4-0 in road games, including two against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) institutions.
The Greyhounds led for 75% of the game, but the advantage favored WU for a good portion of the first half. Eastern went into the halftime intermission up 42-41. From that point on, ENMU would maintain the lead.
Eastern's gritty defense forced 18 turnovers and scored 22 points off those opportunities.
Mo Austin led the program with four steals. ENMU also controlled the battle in the paint as they outscored the Griffins, 46-26, down low. The Hounds tallied 25 of their 31 field goals from inside the arc.
ENMU held a 41-34 edge in the rebounding battle. The Greyhounds were anchored by
Jose Murillo's 18-point, 12-rebound double-double. The Chihuahua, Mexico native earned his eighth double-double of the season. Junior guard
Austin Abrams was second on the team with eight total rebounds. Abrams finished just shy of a double-double as he secured 12 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor.
"We are playing together," said Murillo when asked about the key to victory. "I am happy for my teammates. They stepped up tonight."
Mo Austin was a major reason why Eastern was able to complete the Salt Lake City road trip with a 2-0 mark. The sophomore guard scored 20 points and added four rebounds, four steals, and three assists in the victory. Austin had an impressive +24 +/- in the matchup. That mark was 15 points better than any other teammate.
The best statistical play off the bench for Eastern New Mexico came from
Elijah Hollins who scored a season-high eight points, including two three pointers.
Eastern now prepares for the 2026 portion of the 2025-26 campaign as they close out with 17 conference games. The first set of games will take them on the road to face Sul Ross State and Western New Mexico over the first weekend of the new year.
"Merry Christmas and safe travels to all Greyhounds," said Võ postgame. "We will be back in Portales to practice on the 29th."
ENMU goes into the winter break as one of two teams with one loss on the season and one of three teams with a 3-0 mark in LSC action.
