PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Woman's Basketball (19-8, 14-7 LSC) concluded its home schedule with a 62-48 victory over St. Mary's (12-14, 8-12 LSC) on Saturday afternoon at Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena.
Nataya Lockett led the Greyhounds with 14 points from the bench, finishing 6-10 from the field, while dishing out three assists and finding two steals.
Kaitlyn Edmondson finished 4-4 from the field and 4-5 at the foul line (12 pts), while
Julieta Ceja supplied 10 points from the bench.
Ishuana Hunter made things difficult for the Rattlers on defense, securing a team high six rebounds and five steals during the game.
Trinity Hudson finished with four blocks and a pair of rebounds, while
Jaz Salon contributed six points in just 10 minutes on the floor.
Separated by just one point shortly into the fourth quarter (45-44 ENMU), the Greyhounds outscored the Rattlers 17-4 over the final nine minutes and 55 seconds. The opening layup to begin the 4
th qtr was the only field goal for StMU in the final period, as the Greyhounds went on a 12-1 run over the next eight minutes. Eastern forced eight turnovers in the final period, coming up with three steals. Eastern beat the Rattlers in scoring from turnovers, 23-7, while the ENMU bench supplied 50 points to the Rattlers eight.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- The Greyhounds led for close to 34 minutes of the game, forcing the Rattlers into 26 turnovers during the game, while accounting for 14 steals. Eastern took its largest lead at the end of the game, going up by 16 points with 32 seconds left to play (62-46).
- Eastern finished shooting 39.3% from the floor, connecting on six of 17 free throws (35.3%), and going 14-24 at the foul line (58.3%). Meanwhile, the Rattlers sported a 36.8 field goal percentage (14-38), finding two threes in the game (2-11, 18.2%), while going 18-20 at the foul line (90.0%).
- Eastern earned their 12th victory at home during the win, tying the most in a single season, matching the best mark from 2018-19 (12-1).
- The Greyhounds honored its four seniors playing their final game at Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena: Martrice Brooks, Hudson, Hunter, and Jayla Smith.
- With the victory, the Greyhounds secured the #4 seed in the upcoming LSC postseason tournament, beginning on March 6th. It is the highest finish in conference play since ENMU also finished 4th in the 2018-19 season.
