SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Eastern New Mexico Softball (12-4, 5-1 LSC) used big innings in both games to secure a doubleheader sweep of St. Mary's (9-10, 4-4 LSC) on Sunday afternoon at The Park at StMU. In the opening game, the Greyhounds scored six runs in the 4
th inning, then held off a comeback attempt in an 8-6 win. During the second game, eight runs in the third inning was enough to beat the Rattlers 8-2.
GAME ONE: ENMU 8, StMU 2
Both teams got runners on base in the opening inning, but St. Mary's pushed through the games first run with a two-out RBI single. Eastern found hits in the first three innings, but finally pushed runs across the plate during the 4
th frame. 
Emily Marsh singled to get on base, then the Greyhounds drew four straight walks to take a 2-1 lead. Both 
Aylene Lucero and 
Valeria Contreras were credited with an RBI on the walks. 
Alondra Vasquez followed with an RBI single, then 
Christina Meneses earned an RBI walk, 4-1 ENMU. 
Alexa Ayala capped the big inning with a pinch hit 2-RBI double, giving the Greyhounds a 6-1 lead. Eastern scored six runs from three hits with five walks in the single frame.
The home Rattlers responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, bringing the score to 6-4 Eastern. The Greyhounds tacked on two more runs in the 5
th inning, loading up the bases with one out. Vasquez tapped a grounder to third with an offline throw allowing the Greyhounds to go up 8-4 over the Rattlers. St. Mary's did score a run in the 6
th and had the tying run at the plate in the 7
th, but the Greyhounds held on to win 8-6 over the Rattlers.
NOTABLE STATS
	- Eastern supplied 11 hits in the game, compared to the seven for St. Mary's. The Greyhounds took advantage of six walks, with Ayala's double being the only extra base hit for the Greyhounds
 
	- Vasquez finished with a team best three hits in the game, while Lucero and Marsh also provided a pair of singles. Five different Greyhounds recorded an RBI, with Ayala pacing the team with two.
 
	- Marissa Rodriguez claimed the victory in the circle, tossing four innings of relief with four hits and two unearned runs allowed. Jordan Rivera got the start for Eastern, finishing with 3.0 innings pitched, four runs allowed, and a pair of strikeouts.
 
	- For the Rattlers, Ariella Saenz was charged with the loss, facing six batters and allowing five runs from one hit and four walks. Emily Ayala started the game, throwing three shutout innings while giving up five hits. Jayden Abrego finished the game, giving up three runs (one earned) with three strikeouts over 3.2 IP.
 
GAME TWO: ENMU 8, StMU 2
Trailing 2-0 going into the third inning, Eastern turned the game in their favor with eight runs in a single frame. 
Cierra Smith started the inning with a double, then came around to score on an error after a 
Madison Begaye bunt. The next two batters reached on a fielding error and a bunt single, then Contreras brought in two runs with a double in the right center gap, giving ENMU a 3-2 lead. Vasquez followed with a double to plate one, then Ayala and 
Grace Rofii each had RBI singles to put ENMU ahead 6-2. Smith picked up an RBI in the inning with a fielder's choice, then 
Rashelle VerSteeg concluded the scoring with an RBI single. Eastern finished the third frame with eight runs on eight hits, with two errors from the Rattlers.
From then, the defenses for both teams took over as St. Mary's had three hits over the final five half innings, while ENMU didn't have a hit the rest the game. ENMU's defense got out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the 3
rd, then turned an inning ending double play in the 5
th inning. Additionally, the Greyhounds produced 1-2-3 innings in the 4
th and 7
th innings to capture a 8-2 victory.
NOTABLE STATS
	- Despite all of its hits coming in one inning, Eastern out hit the Rattlers (8-6), while scattering three doubles in during the game.
 
	- C. Smith tossed a complete game in the circle for the Greyhounds earning the win. The freshman allowed just six hits and two runs, inducing 13 groundouts over seven innings.
 
	- In the circle for St. Mary's, Savannah Youngblood is given the loss, throwing 2.0 innings with six runs allowed from five hits. Madeline Bloom tossed five innings total, surrendering three hits and two runs.
 
	- The Greyhounds' eight hits came from eight different bats with Contreras, C. Smith, and Vasquez all having doubles. Contreras had multiple RBIs, with six Greyhounds in total recording an RBI.
 
	- Eastern claimed their first ever series sweep against the Rattlers, and the second doubleheader sweep when playing St. Mary's (2/17/23). The eight runs scored in both games are the most on the road in a single game against St. Mary's.
 
The Greyhounds have a quick turnaround, playing St. Edward's in an LSC doubleheader tomorrow in Austin. First pitch of is set for 11 a.m. (MST) for game one, with the second game to follow shortly after.
