Offense Powers Baseball To 13-9 Win Over Cameron

ENMU brought in 13 runs from 10 hits with 13 RBIs.

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Baseball (8-7, 6-7 LSC) powered their way to a series opening victory over Cameron (4-13, 4-13 LSC), 13-9, on Friday evening at Greyhounds Baseball Field.

Eastern posted 10 hits during the game, scoring 13 runs, with 13 RBIs. Seven different Greyhounds recorded a hit, led by the three-hit effort of Luciano Terilli. Terilli finished 3-3 at the plate with two home runs, four RBIs, and a pair of walks, while Beau Preston tagged a pair of hits and three RBIs.

On the mound, Josaiah Estrella started their first game of the season to take the win, throwing 5.0 innings with five strikeouts and six runs allowed (two earned). Adrian Rubio shut down the Aggies lineup for the remaining four innings, earning a save. Rubio struck out five batters, while allowing four hits and three runs, retiring the final six batters in order.

After Cameron opened the game with three runs in the first inning, ENMU responded with a pair of runs of their own. Terilli started things with a solo home run, while Demetrio Archuleta recorded a sacrifice fly. Both teams scored again in the third inning, with Cameron taking a 5-2 lead. However, the Greyhounds put up seven runs in the third inning to lead 9-5. Eastern had just four hits in the inning, but hit with runners on base as ENMU took advantage of a walk and two hit by pitches. Jalen Freeman and Terilli had 2-RBI singles, while Preston produced a 2-RBI double

Eastern moved its lead to 11-6 over the Aggies with a pair of runs in the 6th. Terilli hit another solo home run, while Archuleta had an RBI single. Cameron scored three runs in the 7th, but Eastern replied with two runs of their own to keep a 13-9 lead. A Preston RBI single and a Anthony Cortese sacrifice fly brought home the runs for ENMU. Eastern closed out the final two innings on defense to take the series opener, 13-9.
 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

  • Along with the 10 hits, ENMU stole four bases lead by three from Freeman, while reaching on five hit by pitches.
  • Estrella moves to 1-0 on the season on the mound, while Rubio picked up his first save of the season for Eastern.
